Vishnupad Temple
The Gaya shrine of Lord Vishnu's sacred footprint on the Phalgu river, the centre of Pinda Daan and Shraddha for the ancestors. Vishnupad Temple stands on the bank of the Phalgu river in Gaya and enshrines the footprint of Lord Vishnu, about 40 cm long, set in rock within a silver-plated basin. Tradition holds that Vishnu placed his foot here to subdue the demon Gayasura, and the ground became sacred to the ancestors. Families come from across India to offer Pinda Daan and Shraddha so that departed souls may find peace. Confirm current access and ritual arrangements locally before travelling.
