Siddhivinayak Temple
Mumbai's most beloved Ganesha shrine, drawing long queues of devotees seeking the remover of obstacles. The Siddhivinayak temple honours Ganesha as the granter of wishes, his idol carved with the trunk turned to the right. It is among the most frequented shrines in Mumbai, with worshippers from every walk of city life. Tuesdays, sacred to Ganesha, see the longest queues as devotees come to begin ventures under his blessing.

Map and model
The temple, mapped
Not a spread-out compound but one six-storey temple on a Prabhadevi street: a flower lane outside, three tall doors, a hall wrapped around the small gold-roofed sanctum, and a gilded dome standing straight above the idol.
Stop 1 of 12 · Walkway
Phool Gali, the flower lane
The narrow lane of flower sellers that runs up to the temple. Garlands, tulsi leaves, coconuts and sweets are sold along it, and this is where most people buy what they will offer inside.
Where it is
It is one of the small lanes that end at the temple, so you walk it before you reach the doors.
Visitor tip
Buy the garland and the coconut here, on the way in. Your hands are full once you are in the line.

The walk, in order
The walking order follows the way the trust and the district's own page describe a visit: the flower lane and the doors, the line and the hall, the sanctum under the dome, then the side shrine, the counter and the trust's upper floors.
