Wednesday (ruled by Mercury, the planet of commerce) is considered the best day to start a new business. Thursday (Jupiter — expansion and wisdom) and Friday (Venus — luxury and relationships) are also excellent. Sunday is good for businesses requiring authority and brand recognition. Avoid Saturday for starting new ventures unless a specific Shani puja is performed.
Akshaya Tritiya (Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya, usually in April–May) is one of the three self-auspicious days in the Vedic calendar — called 'Abujha Muhurat' (muhurta-free). No nakshatra or planetary calculation is needed. Any venture started on this day is believed to grow ('akshaya' means 'that which never diminishes') in prosperity. It is especially powerful when the Sun is exalted in Aries simultaneously.
Yes, Mercury retrograde (Budha Vakri) is generally avoided for starting new businesses, especially those involving technology, contracts, communication, and commerce — all Mercury-governed domains. During retrograde, Mercury's significations face delays, misunderstandings, and reversals. The retrograde shadow period (two weeks before and after the official retrograde) should also be treated with caution for new commercial ventures.
