Auto drivers around the city, including East Fort by the temple, often quote a flat fare instead of using the meter, especially to visitors from outside Kerala.
What to do. Ask for the meter before the trip starts. Use the prepaid auto counters at the airport and railway station, and report a dispute to the city traffic police or the RTO.

People at the temple entrance press first-time visitors to buy puja plates with flowers, incense and oil lamps. At the exits, others push pictures, lamps and shells as holy items.
What to do. Entry does not require a purchased plate. Decline calmly and use only the temple’s own counters if you want an offering.
